Live from…100 feet underground

I spent most of yesterday working on a special BBC Radio Humberside outside broadcast from inside an underground nuclear bunker. RAF Holmpton is only a few miles up the road from me and is a fascinating place that only recently stopped being used by the MoD. Our OB involved miles of cable to link up our ‘base’ in the bunkers’…

Setting up Yubikey

Adding Two-Factor Authentication With Yubikey

Recently I’ve been looking at “beefing” up the security on some of the web apps that I use on a regular basis. The first “app” that I looked at locking down was Dropbox. I’m quite a heavy user of Dropbox and it’s used for sharing and receiving files from clients as well as storing all of the files for projects…

So, I was in a Lancaster bomber…

I’ve had the privilege of getting up close to the Canadian Lancaster bomber (CG-VRA), one of only two remaining airworthy Lancasters in the world, while it’s been on tour in the UK. It was all part of the coverage of a joint Siemens-ABP investment of over £300 million into building two wind turbine factories of the banks of the Humber. You can hear the highlights of the day below.

Cultybraggan Nuclear Bunker once housed a BBC studio, and has over 50 rooms and space for up to 150 people, though apparently, it isn’t as secure as it could be, having being broken…

Local Radio is Important

As the Met Office issues a “Red” weather warning for parts of the UK, and I watch pictures come in from all over the UK showing the devastation caused the the #ukstorms, I start to think about how important local radio is at times like this. During the tidal surge last December, I spent the much of the day and…

BBC Children in Need 2013

I’ve spent the last two days working with BBC Look North Hull on this years Children in Need event. The event, based at the Sirius Academy in Hull, included three opts during the main BBC One CiN programme, and a couple into Look North bulletins. I don’t think we used enough cables though…
